Hennepin County Library’s Immigrant Resources team seeks an unpaid intern to support and advance the literature-discussion group model used to connect adult learners to the library.

Commitment:
Summer 2009, 100-120 hours, part-time, flexible weekday daytime hours.

Wage:
This is an unpaid position which could be for college credit or work experience.

Job Location:
Primary location is Central Library, 300 Nicollet Mall, Downtown Minneapolis.

Duties:
Major responsibilities include:

Facilitate literature discussion program in an off-site adult learning center.

Locate and acquire rights to use additional stories for literature discussion group.

Develop discussion questions for stories selected.

Assist staff in a variety of tasks related to the refinement and implementation of the groups.

Requirements:
Some college required. English majors, writing majors or adult education majors strongly encouraged to apply.

Intern must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

Passion for learning.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Knowledge of literature and reading strategies.

Critical thinking skills.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Interest in working with adult learners.

Awareness of/experience with immigrant experience.
