Children’s Library Internship – Minneapolis Central Library (Hennepin County Library )

Department Description:

The Children’s Library at the Minneapolis Central Library primarily serves children from birth to 6th grade, families, and teachers. The Children’s Library has a unique and historic collection of more than 120,000 children’s books, DVDs, and audio materials that circulate to the youth and families of the Twin Cities area and beyond.

 
Commitment:

One Semester, 8 hours per week, January 2012 through May 2012.

Wage:
This is an unpaid position which could be for college credit or work experience.

Duties:
Duties may include the following:

• Provide direct information services in the Children’s Library
• Assist with collection development work, to include:
• Pull books and other materials from collections for review
• Process books and other materials through catalog
• Perform general collection maintenance activities, such as shelving, sorting, labeling, etc.
• Create and supplement book displays
• Provide support for children’s programming.

Requirements:

Candidate must currently be enrolled in a library program or be a recent library graduate. Applicant must have completed coursework in information services, and have an interest in youth services and/or collection development. Candidate should not have completed an internship with Hennepin County Library in the past.
